PCG deploys aircraft to ‘challenge’ Chinese ship in PH waters
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday said it has deployed an aircraft to challenge the presence of a Chinese research ship inside the country’s archipelagic waters.
Commodore Jay Tarriela, PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, announced the development update at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay media forum.
US approves $5.58-B fighter-jet sale to Philippines
The United States announced on Tuesday it has approved a sale of $5.5 billion in F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines, as Washington backs its ally in rising tensions with China.
The State Department reported it was green-lighting the sale that includes 20 F-16 jets and related equipment to the Philippines, a treaty-bound ally of the United States.
4 Filipinos in Myanmar quake still unaccounted for
The Philippine Embassy in Yangon said no positive identifications have so far been made on any rescued persons or recovered cadavers in connection with the four missing Filipinos after the magnitude 7.7 quake in Myanmar.
In an advisory on Wednesday, the embassy said its composite team met with the officials handling the search and rescue on site as well as officials of the Mandalay General Hospital to confirm identities of rescued or recovered foreigners from the Sky Villa building rubble.
Grass fire engulfed a wide area of Taal Volcano Island – Phivolcs
A grass fire broke out on Taal Volcano Island on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs, the grassfire was observed affecting the Binintiang Munti (VTBM) Observation Station in the southwest portion of Taal Volcano Island and the incident was first recorded at 11:24 a.m.
