MANILA, Philippines — The lower inflation rate recorded in April 2025 shows that the government is working to make people’s lives more comfortable.
This is the statement of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Tuesday.
Romualdez said the numbers show that the government was able to control the prices of primary goods.
Inflation was at 1.4 percent in April, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
“The decrease in the inflation rate to 1.4 percent this April is concrete proof that the government’s efforts have a real impact on the lives of ordinary Filipinos,” Romualdez said in Filipino.
‘This number shows that the government can now better control the prices of basic goods – from rice, vegetables, meat, up to electricity and transport fares. This means people can better afford daily expenses, and the ability of Filipinos to make use of their budget has widened,” he added.

According to the PSA, the 1.4 percent inflation rate was brought by the slower increase in the cost of food and transportation.
This number is lower than the rate recorded in March 2025, which was at 1.8 percent.
Also, the figures are better than the initial prediction of 1.9 percent made by economists during an Inquirer poll of 10 economists.

Emilio Neri Jr., lead economist at the Bank of the Philippines Islands (BPI), said during the poll that they expected a steeper inflation rate.
He said this is because of higher electricity costs brought by the increased demand for air conditioning in summer, and the increase in Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) fare. /apl
