MANILA, Philippines — Two bus drivers from the Solid North bus firm tested positive for illegal drug use, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday.

This came after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) conducted mandatory drug testing on all Solid North bus drivers after a deadly multi-vehicle crash along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway that killed 12 people last May 1.

“According to LTO, those who tested positive will be subjected to confirmatory tests, and may face perpetual revocation of their license and other criminal charges,” DOTr said in an advisory.

The agency also said that the bus firm’s units underwent testing at the LTO’s motor vehicle inspection facility in Zambales.

“Forty-six out of 276 buses were found to be compliant with roadworthiness standards. The LTO continues to check the remaining bus units as of the moment,” the DOTr added.

The DOTr previously ordered the suspension of the bus company’s operations after the Labor Day car crash. The company on Saturday said that it will be responsible and take accountability for the incident.
