MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday appeared before prosecutors from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and submitted her response to the case filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding the threat to the lives of the President, the First Lady, and the House Speaker.

Duterte faces a complaint for inciting to sedition and grave threats after saying, during a live stream press conference that, in case she would be killed, she had already hired someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

“Nag-file lang ang ating Vice President ng kanyang counter-affidavit doon sa complaint na inihain ng NBI (National Bureau of Investigation),” Atty. Michael Poa said speaking on behalf of Duterte.

However, Poa refused to divulge the contents of her counter-affidavit, emphasizing that “we do not want to preempt, out of due respect na rin para ma-appreciate ng walang outside influence ng mga prosecutors.”

“Our VP has always been consistent; she has always said before that she would face the accusations being thrown against her in the proper venue, which she did today. She faced them,” he added.

Meanwhile, the DOJ assured the public that “the process will follow the normal course of law, and that accountability and the rule of law will prevail regardless of who the respondent may be.” /jpv/abc
