MANILA, Philippines — Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has called President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. a “lame duck” in the wake of the 2025 elections.
Partial results in the senatorial race showed that three candidates in the “Magic 12” were backed by former President Rodrigo Duterte, Roque’s former boss.
This prompted Roque to post on his social media on Tuesday night: “‘Di man kandidata si Junior, nawala pa rin ang mga pangil niya! Heto na ang tunay na lame duck na presidente!”
(Although Junior was not a candidate, he has been weakened! Here now is the true lame duck president!)
In response, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a briefing on Wednesday, “Kung lame duck ang pangulo at parang balewala na ang administrasyon, dapat bumalik siya kaagad dito.”
(If the president is a lame duck and the administration no longer has power, he should return here immediately.)
