MANILA, Philippines — Aftershocks are expected from the magnitude 5.2 earthquake that struck off the shore of a La Union town on Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs in its bulletin said that the earthquake’s center was located west of Luna in La Union at 10:36 a.m.
In its latest update, it downgraded the earthquake’s magnitude from 5.4 to 5.2 while it updated the earthquake’s depth from 10 kilometers to 17 kms.

The earthquake’s strength was reported in the following areas:
- Intensity IV: Luna, Bangar, San Juan, San Fernando City, and Bacnotan in La Union; Baguio City; and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
- Intensity III: Bauang, La Union; Batac City, San Nicolas, and Pinili in Ilocos Norte; Itogon, Kabayan, Mankayan, Sablan, Tuba, and Kapangan in Benguet; Dagupan City; and Alaminos City, Pangasinan
- Intensity II: Kiangan, Ifugao; Buguias and Kibungan in Benguet
Meanwhile, its instrumental intensities, or the measurement of the ground shaking, are recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity IV: Candon City and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
- Intensity III: Sinait, Ilocos Sur; San Nicolas and Batac City in Ilocos Norte
- Intensity II: Bangued, Abra; Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; San Fernando and Aringay in La Union; Bani, Infanta, and Bolinao in Pangasinan
- Intensity I: Baguio City
The Phivolcs also withdrew its earlier warning of expected damage to properties from the earthquake. /das / jpv
