Senate minority to initiate Sara Duterte impeachment trial this Monday
Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday bared the Senate minority’s plan to initiate the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
“My fellow countrymen, we will not allow the Senate to be the first to defy the Constitution,” Hontiveros said at a press conference in the Senate. “That is why this afternoon, later in the plenary, we in the Senate Minority will take action to begin fulfilling our constitutional duty.”
Protesters urge Senate to proceed with Duterte impeachment trial
Protesters gathered in front of the Senate building on Monday to urge the upper chamber to fulfill its constitutional mandate of trying the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Several groups and coalitions, including Akbayan Party, Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party, and Tindig Pilipinas, led the protest, which began at around 9:30 a.m.
Escudero: No reso to dismiss Duterte impeachment trial submitted yet
No resolution seeking to dismiss the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte has reached the desk of Senate President Francis Escudero.
He confirmed this during a press conference on Monday.

A Filipino national was among the immigrants arrested during the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on Friday that have sparked protests in Los Angeles.
Rolando Veneracion-Enriquez, 55, was one of six detained immigrants identified by the Homeland Security Department on Sunday.
