MANILA, Philippines —- The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has reminded the public that entering drainage systems is dangerous after it addressed a viral video showing two male individuals inside a drainage manhole along Edsa in Quezon City.

In a statement on Saturday, the QCPD reported that the incident on the video circulating online took place near Trinoma Landmark around 2 p.m. on June 16.

According to the police investigation, the two men “were hired by their neighbor to repair a damaged water hose located beneath the drainage system in the area.”

But rain suddenly poured while they were doing the repairs, causing the water level inside the drainage to rapidly rise.

“To avoid being trapped, the two searched for an alternative exit and eventually found a small opening in the drainage system. They were seen calling for help, as captured in the viral footage,” said the police.

The QCPD advised the public to coordinate with their local authorities before engaging in any underground repair work or activities that may pose risks to life and safety, especially during the rainy season. /mr
