Phivolcs: No tsunami threat to PH after magnitude 6.1 Davao quake
MANILA, Philippines — There is no tsunami threat to the country following the magnitude 6.1 off the coast of Davao Occidental on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor occurred at 7:07 a.m., 85 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town, Phivolcs detailed.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” Phivolcs said in a bulletin.
“However, earthquakes of this size may generate unusual sea level disturbances that may be observed along coasts near the earthquake epicenter of Davao Occidental and nearby provinces,” the agency added.

Earlier, Phivolcs also said aftershocks are projected but no damage is expected from the magnitude 6.1 earthquake. /jpv
