MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has secured the procurement of solar power systems for its office and facility projects through a partnership with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC).
Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on Monday, the MMDA and PNOC will collaborate on integrating solar power systems into MMDA facilities in Cavite and Pasig City to promote cost-efficient electricity consumption.
“Together, we are embarking on projects that represent our shared vision for a cleaner and more energy-efficient future,” said MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes in his speech.
A ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system is proposed to be installed at the MMDA Carmona Development, which has been repurposed as a center for “training, disaster response, and environmental sustainability.”
Meanwhile, a rooftop solar PV system is planned for installation at the MMDA Annex Building in Pasig City, which—along with the MMDA Head Office—has been recognized as a Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE)-certified government facility.
The agency aims to earn a BERDE 3-star rating for the MMDA Facility in Pasig to further demonstrate its commitment to climate-responsive infrastructure.

For his part, PNOC President and Chief Executive Officer Oliver Butalid said the initiative aligns with the company’s vision of promoting renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in government operations.
“By using the solar PV system, [Butalid] assured that the MMDA will significantly save on electricity costs and contribute to the government’s goal of increasing the use of renewable energy,” the statement said mostly in Filipino.
