13,000 affected by days of rain, NDRRMC reports

NDRRMC: Habagat, storms death toll rises to 25

MANILA, Philippines — Over 13,000 individuals have been affected by the combined effects of Typhoon “Bising” (international name: “Danas”) and the southwest monsoon (habagat), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Sunday.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said 3,773 families—or a total of 13,006 individuals—were affected across 14 barangays nationwide.

Of this number, the agency reported that four families, or 18 individuals, were served inside evacuation centers, while 1,016 families, or 3,000 individuals, received assistance outside the centers.

A total of 25 areas in Central Luzon experienced flooding, while a rain-induced landslide was reported in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The NDRRMC also reported that power lines in five cities or municipalities were affected by the recent weather disturbance.

To help affected communities, the agency has so far distributed P183,173 worth of assistance.

Earlier, the state weather bureau reported that Bising had intensified into a typhoon while remaining outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Although it has no direct impact on the country, the state weather bureau earlier reported that clouds associated with Bising would bring rain over Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands.

Due to Bising’s trough or extension, the state weather bureau issued a gale warning over Batanes. /cb
