MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain are expected in Palawan and Mindanao on Wednesday due to the trough or extension of the low-pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) 5 a.m. weather forecast, the LPA monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility was spotted 805 kilometers east of Southern Mindanao as of 3 a.m.

However, Pagasa said that the LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone for the next 24 hours.
“Asahan po ngayong araw dahil sa epekto ng trough or extension nitong low-pressure area pati na rin ang intertropical convergence zone, magiging makulimlim ang panahon at may pag-ulan na mararanasan sa Mindanao pati na rin sa Palawan,” Pagasa weather specialist Rhea Torres said.

Meanwhile, Torres said that Luzon will experience hot weather due to the easterlies, or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
“Kung may pag-ulan man ay dulot ito ng mga isolated thunderstorms, panandalian o biglaang buhos ng ulan na mas madalas nararanasan sa hapon o sa gabi,” Torres noted.

With this, 17 areas across the country are forecast to reach “danger” heat level indices ranging from 42 degrees Celsius to 47 degrees Celsius.
Torres added that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain brought by isolated thunderstorms are expected in Visayas.

Nearing landmass
Torres also said that the LPA will gradually approach the landmass in the coming days. She added that more areas will experience rain due to the LPA’s trough and ITCZ on Thursday.
“This coming May 1, magiging maulan po sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas, Mindanao, at ang pag-ulan na yan ay posibleng magpatuloy hanggang sa weekend,” Torres said.
