Relieved QCPD exec faces criminal rap for releasing detainee from jail

A criminal case against the recently relieved chief of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD CIDU) was formally filed for allegedly releasing a detainee from their custodial facility without authorization.

MANILA, Philippines — A criminal case against the recently relieved chief of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD CIDU) was formally filed for allegedly releasing a detainee from their custodial facility without authorization.

According to a copy of the investigation data form obtained by INQUIRER.net on Saturday, the case pertains to an alleged violation of Article 156 of the Revised Penal Code or the delivering of a prisoner from jail.

The case was filed before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday.

Former QCPD CIDU chief Maj. Don Don Llapitan and his subordinate Lt. Dexter Bernadas were named as the respondents in the case.

Meanwhile, Maj. Joseph Valle of the QCPD CIDU stood as the nominal complainant of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Llapitan, Bernadas and one other police officer were relieved from their posts after allegedly freeing a person under police custody (PUPC) from the CIDU detention facility last April 17 to allow her to see relatives at a hotel.

This was announced by QCPD officer-in-charge Col. Randy Glenn Silvio in a press briefing at Camp Karingal on April 22.
