Bicol police boost disaster readiness ahead of rainy season

LEGAZPI CITY — With the onset of the rainy season and the threat of typhoons and other calamities, the Police Regional Office 5 has stepped up its disaster preparedness efforts through the annual inspection of its disaster response equipment held Tuesday, May 20, at Camp BGen Simeon A. Ola in this city.

The activity is part of the Philippine National Police’s nationwide initiative to ensure operational readiness for emergencies caused by typhoons, floods and other weather-related events.

Displayed during the inspection were search and rescue (SAR) resources, including water desalination machines, trucks, ambulances, rubber boats, and other life-saving equipment essential to emergency operations.

Police Brig. Gen. Andre Perez Dizon, Bicol police chief, led the inspection and emphasized the importance of readiness.

“As we face the onset of the rainy season, it is vital that our units are fully equipped and our personnel are mission-ready,” Dizon told reporters.
He said police rescue teams are committed to safeguarding lives and ensuring a swift response during disasters.

Beyond showcasing capabilities, the event also aimed to raise public awareness and encourage community participation.

“Community involvement in disaster preparedness is crucial to achieving zero casualties. Resilience begins with informed and alert citizens,” he said.
